Habitat 2002 / 09

Habitat was made in response to two particular sources; a 38” section of books taken from a friend’s bookshelf, and a basement, white-box, photographic studio. Over a period of 3 months in the Winter of 2002, the artist took up residence in the photographic studio, along with the set of books, and developed various visual, performative, aural and written responses to the books. Procedure(s):
This space and action of production – which simulated an ambiguous space somewhere between study and studio - was continually photographed by the artist and the resulting ‘documentary’ photographs form the core of the work.

The work takes various forms and has most recently been shown as a series of large scale digital prints, along with a video animation made from the still images and recorded sound.
